PE & Games Intent Statement

Ludlow Junior School’s achievements in sport are recognised locally in the Southampton City Sports Awards, from winning a variety of sporting competitions to being awarded the fair play award for the city. This is due to the high percentage of children that are engaged in tournaments, clubs, festivals and the quality and breadth of PE lessons. Physical confidence in skills from team games and athletics are learnt alongside aesthetic skills from gymnastics and dance. Our main aim is to ensure every child develops their physical confidence, gains knowledge of physical skills and their body and enhance their valuable life skills.

Our varied PE & Games curriculum allows children to understand how to perform skills, allowing them to build a bank of key terminology. They are encouraged to perform these skills, allowing them the chance to develop social and personal skills to help solve problems. Children will manage and control their bodies during dance & gymnastics sessions, as well as increasing their skill and confidence. Through planned activities in lessons, children will become independent and resourceful learners across games, dance, athletics, swimming, outdoor and adventurous activities and gymnastics.

We have strong links with the Southampton School Games and local coaching companies such as Active for all. Children have the opportunity to participate in sport across the school day including; pre-school competitions, Action Arena during break times, inter house half-termly competitions in a variety of sport, Sports Leaders and a variety of extra-curricular opportunities.

It is advised that a PE kit should be brought into school and kept in your child's classroom for the week. Please click on this link for further information; PE Kit
