Reading journals

Reading journals are kept in school so that we can monitor how often children are reading as well as ensuring they read a variety of age-appropriate texts.

What do reading journals consist of?

  1. 'List of books I’ve read’ tracks and monitors the range of texts that children are reading.
  1. ‘My reading log’ tracks and monitors reading opportunities in school – who supported and what the focus was.
  1. ‘Home reading record’ keeps a log at school of how much children are reading at home.
  1. ‘Home reading’ goes home to track and monitor when children are reading at home (supported and independently) and children are incentivised to read outside of school. Opportunities for challenges on ‘Home reading’ will be given to further engage keen readers.

Below, you can find links to the various documents that we use to track and monitor reading;
