Autumn 1

                Handball

Pupils learn the different passing techniques for handball, including one handed passing and catching, dribbling the ball and the correct shooting technique. This is then developed into competitive game situations to encourage working together as a team and progressing skill level in a more complex setting.

Autumn 2

Basketball

Pupils learn the different passing techniques used within basketball, including chest and bounce passes. They will also have the opportunity to practise the correct shooting technique to help with both power and accuracy. These skills will then be put into a game situation to encourage their progress further and think about game strategies.

Spring 1

Tag Rugby

Pupils play a variety of different games using tags to understand the foundation of tag rugby before learning the correct throwing techniques of the game. Games such as foxes and farmers encourages dodging and changes of direction, which are crucial in a full game of tag rugby. Children will learn the correct way to carry a rugby ball and the basic ball handling skills involved in tag rugby.

Spring 2

Netball

Pupils learn the correct passing techniques of chest, bounce and shoulder passes. Children will practise the correct shooting techniques for the sport as well as defending skills. The rules of footwork, no contact and distance are introduced within a small game situation. This encourages the new and individual rules for netball to be explored.

Summer 1

Striking and Fielding

Pupils learn the basic Striking and fielding rules of both rounders and cricket. They will learn the correct technique for hitting the ball with a bat in both sports as well as learning different throwing and catching strategies. Children will be able to put all skills learnt into a competitive situation for both sports.

Summer 2

Athletics

Pupils are able to explore the variety of different athletic events in both track and field events. This will focus on techniques in throwing, jumping and running. This encourages children to practise their skills individually.
